League Rule:

  • Singing begins at 9pm.

  • There are 2 rounds in which everyone sings once.

  • Singing order is chosen randomly.

  • The singing order will be posted at start time. Hopefully everyone will show up on time. Anyone missing their turn will have to sing immediately upon arrival.

  • Sometimes, people have to leave early, I get that. Feel free to let me know when you arrive that night.

  • Just like jury duty, you could be asked to judge at least one night that you don't sing on. If this isn't an option for you, please let me know ASAP.

  • If you can't make it for whatever reason, don't call me during the day. Please let me know by text before 9pm. 306-241-5500

  • In the event of a tie, the person tying the one ahead of them will take the spot for that week.

  • Make friends and be supportive of others.

  • 25 pt penalty for not showing up per night.

Scoring:

  • 0 - 10 pts pitch/key

  • 0 - 10 pts emotion in voice

  • 0 - 10 pts performance

So, a total of 30 pts could be handed out per song.

Tips:

  • Try and sing to everyone in the room (especially judges).

  • Be aware of how loud you are. Try to not scream or yell into the mic. A good note that is too loud is just as bad as a flat one at times.

  • Smile, enjoy yourself.

  • Don't just stand in the corner looking up at the monitor, give us a show. Karaoke is for the people who sing on the weekends.

  • Don't get caught up in the competitive part of things. Not everyone is in it for that reason!

  • Grow a thick skin, One week you may be first, the next week you may be last. Some of you could be last every week! There are people in this league who've done this for over ten years. Be in competition with yourself and no one else.

  • Judges like different things. Get used to that.

Tuesday Emo

Good job everyone, it was an interesting theme for sure. Good job pulling out the "poor me" attitude in the Emo genre.

TARA --Calling You-- Nice emo era style, great vocals as usual. Creepy as f**k already love it. I am having PTSD. Great vocals, love the concept. great prop use. How many f**king phones do you have? It was OK. I just wish you would have gone full Emo and c@% yourself. --Dying In LA-- Not what I would have pegged as emo, but it was beautifully done. I enjoyed the Marilyn and Hollywood aspects of it all. 10/10 If only you were dying in crackers, but in real life, not just your performance.

RIKKI --The '59 Sound--Great vocals and visuals with the chalk outline. Nice Setup! Great song for you! You really show confidence in this vocally and performance-wise. Good story telling, overall great job! --True Trans Soul Rebel-- Great theatrics and vocals. Well done, I like the glitter in the red paint on your arms.

CHANTELLE --Helena-- Fantastic look and sound. "so long" --Hey There Delilah-- Again flawless vocals. Third place on mostly just vocals alone is nothing to sneeze at. Great job, Miss Chantellebot 4000.

JASPER --With Me-- Confetti canon scared the hell out of Dawson. No complaints. I would actually like it if you did "let this go" and just be done. --Dirty Little Secret-- Great storytelling with that poor sheep. Good job. F that balloon. Is your dirty little secret that you are human- garbage? Guess what, it's not a secret.

MELODY --Perfect-- Great costume, great vocals, good portrayal of emotions. Nice finish- Good tone. You know what would be perfect? S@!$!%e, you should try it. I think you'd be good at it. --Fall For You-- Another great emo look and sound. Stopped killing Nathan... I'm starting to think we should intervene, lol. Predatorial. Don't roofie anyone. Looks like there were 2 murders from you: your husband and music. And 1 person who wanted to end it just for quiet. That was me.

MAYCE --Face Down-- I can tell the cold goblins got into your voice and breath again, but pretty damn good considering. Great tone- love the energy, you love this tone clearly! Work on your breath support, diaphragm is your best friend! Love the outfit. --The Only Exception-- This one sounded more stable, beautiful as always.

EMERY --The Middle-- Love your voice and pitch. Good tone, don't screen watch. Nice solo, lol. Loved it. --Hate Me-- Other than accidentally extending that first chorus, this was very well done.

SIMON --I Will Follow You Into The Dark-- I really felt that performance. You brought the EMOtion. --Numb-- Back to the cat getting numbed out by over spraying, lol. I understand your vision. I don't get the concept, but it's cool, nonetheless.

DENIS --Coma White-- I liked this one, I thought you did it well. Great vocals. Don't screen watch. You sound awesome. Don't forget to breathe. --Love Will Tear Us Apart-- Well done. Good sound, could have used something visual maybe.

JAIME --Sing-- Good song choice, sounded good. good look too. --Roger Rabbit-- I wouldn't have pegged this for emo but sounded pretty good. A couple of shaky notes, but nothing major. THX for being my voice tonight.

LENORE --The Reason-- Sorry we had the wrong song in the beginning, It's been relabelled so that won't happen again with that song. Sounded good, maybe work on pulling the mic back a touch when you belt it. No Seether tonight! Wow, good tone though, you are comfortable with it! Good overall, engage your diaphragm for better pitch control. --The Kill-- It was a tiny bit pitchy, and you seemed a little less comfy with it at the start but you got in there.

CALEB --Adam's Song-- Started the first line off key, but you did find it pretty quickly. Great sound anyway. Very well done. --The Kids Aren't Alright-- This was a little bit off key at times, but the timing was pretty close. great sound though.

MADISON --Boulevard Of Broken Dreams-- You knew this one well and it showed, Now we can work on pulling a that mic from your mouth when you get really loud. Good choice, you know it- stop screen peeking. Love the engagement. You know what you're doing. --Kryptonite-- I think the problems you were having with timing could be pegged to the fact that you kept adding little extra words, which throws your timing off by one syllable at a time. Sounded like you know how it goes and reading it got you a little flustered. Trust yourself, girl. You sound good.

HAYLEY --Summertime Sadness-- A little off at the start, those nerves are so mean! I could see the nervousness. People want to hear you. Pretend we're all drunk watching you. Find your octave. Figure out where your tone is. Welcome to league. It gets easier. --I Write Sins Not Tragedies-- If you turn 45 degrees to your left, you can read the screen behind the judges and not look like you're terrified of those judges. Well done.

Thanks again to Dawson Keller and Chris Shmigelski for judging tonight.

Wednesday Emo

Great costumes, seeing everyone in Emo was just the chuckle we all needed tonight. One judge had very thorough notes, so we will roll with that...

DAWSON --Pieces-- Okay... I know I always get on you about mic control (which was great BTW) Now... ALWAYS SING EMO! This was SO good for your voice! WOW WOW WOW! --Teenagers-- You got REALLY into your performance, so mic control took a hit, but I don't even care, that was fun! This is your vibe!

MORGAN --Everybody's Fool-- You hired the perfect actress, Tracy's face helped sell the story, and you sang it close to perfection! Great job. --Breathe No More-- Love the mirror, still being able to sing to the judges while keeping your back to us. Vocally perfect! Couldn't ask for more.

TRACEY --Misery Business-- I knew it was gonna happen, this is one of those songs you HAVE to know, cause the second verse is too fast for the screen, but you pulled it back together and ROCKED! --That's What You Get-- You are in your element on stage, I love watching you get into your songs, then you add stellar vocals, and amazing range... wow!

DARLA --The Funeral-- Regardless of the context, this is a really fun song! You had some mic control issues in a few spots, but otherwise, great job. --Fleabag-- You do creepy very well! The start of the song was fun to watch (not that the rest wasn't, but the beginning stuck out for me). Again, watch your mic control, it got away on you a few times.

SMOKEY JAMES --Bring Me To Life-- That falsetto is next level! I don't know if a whole song done in falsetto was the best choice, but you powered through. (It kind of sounded like Elmo does Evanescence). --Hey There Delilah-- This is the better of the two, your voice is so smooth! And the little flickers you add in those longer notes chef's kiss Makes me forget how creepy the lyrics are.

SHIMMY --Jonathan-- Pretend it's an acoustic guitar? How about pretend like I don't have to listen to... whatever that was. Much like the lyrics say, your voice drained the life out of me. --I'm Not Okay (I Promise)-- You're right, you're not okay... you're worse! The coughing was the best part, I was hoping you'd cough yourself to death, but stupid Danyal just HAD to help.

BRIGIT --Decode-- Great outfit! The beginning was SO good, but I think if you brought this down a notch or two it would have been easier to keep those belty notes stronger. --Lithium-- I love how you give your all to every song. Your range is amazing, especially when you nail those belt notes!

SCOTT --Stacy's Mom-- As much as I appreciate being Stacy's mom, you should have given this a couple more practice runs to help with the lyrics. Really fun performance! --Beverly Hills-- Love the outfit! You really look the part. You definitely knew this song better, and you did it very well... scared a patron, but a lot of fun.

LISA --High Hopes-- Your hair got so long so fast, lol. But seriously, I love the look! A couple tiny blunders, but you kept the energy up! --A Favor House Atlantic-- I've never heard this song before, but it sounds fun! You were living your emo star fantasy! Great job.

LIZ --Remember Everything-- Amazing mic control for those high notes, pull the mic a little closer for those bottom notes. Great "emo"tion, you seem to really connect to this song. --Bullet-- I'm not sure if I would qualify this as emo, but i'll let it slide, the subject matter is dark enough to let it be a pass, and you did it well.

CLAIRE --I Don't Love You-- Love the outfit, especially that skirt! I don't know this song, but it sounds like some of the bottom notes got you a bit. The rest was great! --The Only Exception-- Another great skirt! You had the look tonight. I don't know this song, but it sounded great.

DAVID --The Middle-- I LOVE THIS SONG! You did very well with it. --Anthem-- This song takes me back! You did very well with the verses, but the choruses tripped you up a bit.

DARRYL --Hey There Delilah-- This is a great song for your voice, but you really need to watch your mic control, you have a strong voice. --Zero-- I don't know this one, but I could see a couple timing problems, but the mic control needs work. If you back the mic off and inch or two, you'd be in business.

BRUCE --One Last Breath-- This song takes me back! Creed was a major part of my high school emo phase. You had some timing and pitch issues, but the props were great. --21 Guns-- I think a couple more practice runs may have helped with the pitch a bit, good effort.

CALBERT --Chandelier-- Very wise to sing the octave down, but even so, that chorus is hard, and I commend you for going for it! --Photograph-- So.. neither song would be something I would consider "emo" but you got by on the fact that I LOVE both songs. The themes are meant to expand your musical horizons, so don't be afraid to get into it.

Thanks again to Danyal Gibson and Melody Wolfe for judging tonight!

Thursday Emo

I really loved the energy you guys brought! Sorry for the late notes, You all did so great!

TRACI --My Immortal-- Whose going to wipe away all of my tears though? Good job! I have no words because your emotion and engagement captured me --Simmer-- Solid performance, great tone, vocals, etc. solid. Nice job, nice control going to belts and back so quickly.

COLTEN --In The End-- Good times, chester- voice felt strained, but it brought energy. Wow you know this song so well. Great emotion. --Shadow On The Sun-- Loved the power of this, captivating, great mic control. Great vocals on this one.

BRYDEN --Innocence-- Great sound, great emoting, it was a nice performance. You have a beautiful voice. Great job. --That Funny Feeling-- Strong vocals, confident & smooth, maybe more energy, but sometimes that's song dependent. That funny feeling isn't so funny. Well done.

DAWSON --Beverly Hills-- Strong front Man energy, woot x4. Powerful voice. Great job rolling in and getting on stage. --Bleed It Out-- Very shouty. Great power again. Just make sure you don't strain your voice with that power.

SYDNEY --Gives You Hell-- Nice, lots of fun & funny. Watch mic distance when shouting, but really it was a solid performance. The audience's on beat clapping was horrendous (not a note for Sydney lol). You have amazing energy. Just watch mic control when you're excited. --The Only Exception-- Thanks for the valentines. I forgot to buy some but don' tell the other judge- fun performance! You have great creativity with your performances, Build that support for your vocals.

KODY --I'm Just A Kid-- Things get better as we grow older. Feelings. Keep it up kiddo, it'll work out. Great stage presence. The wig makes me want an Ed Sheeran cover of this song. --Nothing To Lose-- More wings- Awesome. It was like I was back there, being bullied in Nam. You know this well- the lyrics were timed so wrong on the screen. Good emotion.

MELODY --Mr Brightside-- Great stuff, I was about to lose it when your chair fell over but the performance soothed my 'tude. Swimming, turning, damn those alibis. Great job. --The Middle-- Why can't those chairs stay up?! Great job singing with this bug going around.

SHIMMY --My Heroine-- Loved the coughing, it's like someone told a funny joke to Grandpa. Coughing is emo. Don't know how you pulled off the screaming, good job, don't die. --Jonathan-- The coughing remix, but the coughs were on beat, you really made it your own. Remember, you're at that age where a doctor should cradle your balls when you cough. I'll give you 5 bucks to let me do it. Sing your anger out at the virus.

JASMINE --Monster-- Nice energy & growl. Try to keep less eyes on the lyrics, but still fun performance. Nice monster voice. Could tell you felt a little funny but you did great! --I Hate Everything About You-- What did I do?!? Hate is a strong word. I felt that. Watch mic control when you go to the belting. Sounded great.

NICOLE --Bring Me To Life-- The demonology of Hasbro really brought this to life. Great expression and props. Make sure you say goodbye to whatever demon you summoned tonight. Great job. --Screaming Infidelities-- My culture isn't a costume! (a 40 of Jameson and a tie dye sweater). This song was a personal attack on my life. Nice vocals, good job!

JAMID --Say It Ain't So-- It took a moment then you found extra umph, and then the song brought some power. Give the same support you give for the lower stuff to the higher notes. I can hear them they just need your confidence to shine. --Under The Bridge-- Crowd pleaser! Lots of energy! Great job. Look at the judges once in a while instead of just the screen.

JORDAN --Fallen Leaves-- Loved the energy & the paraphernalia. Remember to toss the spoon under Shimmy's driver seat before you leave. Great stage presence. Try to look at the screen a little less. --Dance Dance-- Fun times, enjoyed the song, loved how you kept up the hype. A few timing issues but the falsetto was pretty good.

KEALY --Hate Me-- Your fan was kind of awkward but it didn't phase you. The only singer to attract a dancer. 10/10 Could tell you really felt the lyrics to the song. --Vindicated-- Nice use of props, plz project more. That hope was strong. Nice job.

AMBROSE --Gone Too Soon-- Dedicated songs carry a different kind of energy, thanks for sharing it. Try attacking the higher notes from above with support. You've got them. --Hey Look Ma I Made It-- Sick dancing, fun energy, much fun. Love how much fun you had with this!

CAT --Wake Me Up-- Came in soft, but you found your voice, great sound. Love the power in your lower register. Plan something for the long interludes. --Basketcase-- Great facial expressions, reminded me of my own stoned paranoia. Great energy!

BRUCE --Boulevard Of Broken Dreams-- Keep on rocking, loved the costume. Timing was off. Try practicing the song a few more times and it'll get right back. --Arms Wide Open-- Right on, lots of passion in this one. You knew this one much better. A couple of timing issues but got back eventually.

Thanks again to Simon Wourms and Mayce Achtemichuk for judging!
